Adult, Adolescent, Child Psychotherapy and Life Coaching...

In traversing through our day-to-day lives, there are times when we all find ourselves facing increased stress, worry, anxiety, and feelings of depression.  In many cases, these feelings are transitory and we are able to rebound quickly.  In some instances however, these feelings persist and begin to weave themselves into the daily fabric of our lives, and our being.  It is during these times that we are challenged to find new ways of coping.

Mental health therapy offers a structured and supportive opportunity to explore, understand and resolve past trauma or other emotional conflicts; and then to develop and implement functional coping strategies which may assist the client in moving towards healthy resolution of presenting life circumstances.

Life coaching is defined as the practice of assisting people with goal achievement with an emphasis placed on future outcomes and where the client wants to go.  The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as " an ongoing professional relationship that helps people to produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers or organizations.  Throughout the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life."

While psychotherapy and life coaching both assist in goal acheivement, psychotherapy seeks to assist the client in understanding and resolving past experiences and conflicts as the clients seeks to acheive higher functioning.  Life coaching, in contrast, seeks to assist the client almost exclusively with future goal achevement.  Both are powerful and relevant tools in effecting long-term emotional and/or tangible changes.

In my practice, the client and clinician enter into a collaborative partnership where experience; imperical-clinical data collection and analysis; humor; and the client's own strengths are employed in effecting meaningful change. Clinical approaches include:

     ** Solution-focused therapy
     ** Comprehensive psychotherapy
     ** Cognitive-behavioral therapy
     ** Child-Centered play therapy
** Client-directed Life Coaching focusing on specific goal achievement

If you or someone you know is finding it difficult to cope with life’s stressors, past or present, and would like to begin or complement current efforts in moving forward; or would like to acheive greater fulfillment and progress towards specific goals, please contact me at 703.963.6110 to make an appointment.
